meeting people making friends

Julia Hilton sent this email that prompted us to add this feature to the Solihull Online website:
"I have an idea for the site. Having recently returned to the area after 10 years I am in need of making new friends! I work in Coventry and no one there lives here. I thought a nice idea would be to set up a Friends message board where people such as myself could meet new people in the area by posting messages about themselves. It is NOT a dating thing I want, just for friends. I'm sure I can't be the only one!"

I'm 36, divorced, have no kids and am looking to meet other single females to go out with! I grew up in Solihull and have recently moved back here after leaving at 18 to go to uni. I've spent most of my adult life in and around London working in senior roles in the travel industry. I love travelling to far-flung places and travelled solo round South America for nine months after leaving my husband. If, like me, you find that all your friends are married and too busy with children to accompany you in your search for Mr Right and need a companion - get in touch! Sorry to be ruthless but I'm really not looking to meet nerdy types who don't have much else going on in their life - just normal, fun-loving girls.

Whatever background, gender and age all welcome. I like to talk about controversial issues, have fun, drink wine etc.. I hate formalities, and ceremony. We are in the process of setting up a 'club' where anyone wanting to inject a bit of variety into their social life can come along, feel comfortable, meet other sociable people without any other agenda, and just have a bit of fun.  We'll be arranging meals out; pub soirees; theatre trips occasionally; country walks at the weekend; cocktail evenings and anything else those involved feel they'd be interested in.  Nights to dress-up and glitter, and others when it's jeans & sweaters.  This is aimed at 35's to young 50's.  Evenings will be organised within approx. 10 mile radius of Solihull.  There will be a quarterly membership fee of £30, for which you will receive an information sheet detailing the forthcoming evenings & weekend events.  We'd appreciate feedback.
Contact:  easimix@btconnect.com.  Look forward to hearing from you.

Just stumbled across this site.  Does anyone out there know of any organisations that people of all ages can go to (im 35) to meet like minded people, that isnt too stuck up and snobby and doesnt cost a fortune???  Ive been in touch with one site recently and it costs an absolute fortune for membership and to do the activities and, as a single parent and only wage earner, I cant afford to do it.  If any one could post some suggestions on here I would be grateful.  Thanx

I've really had a bad year and could use someone to be a friend ,to listen to my problems and me to be there for them when needed . I just want friendship and conversation from males or females . This would be a "over the miles" friendship , which I hope would grow and grow , and many of us could get a real friendly group going.

Hi everyone.  This is a long shot I know but figured I may as well give it a shot. I'm trying to trace a girl who lives in Solihull who had tried to contact me through Yahoo - who have now somewhat inexplicably moved the goalposts of their service.  All I know is she's a graduate, single, 27 years old, has blond hair and is called Jenny. She says she works too hard and is into music having seen the Raconteurs recently. She also lives with flatmates or a lodger and has been travelling to the West Coast of the USA recently.  If, in the million to one chance you might read this, or you might know who she is please get in contact!!

Hi, I'm 25 and currently living and working in Birmingham city centre which is where i ve been living since leaving uni at Manchester. I'm looking to make some new friends in the area who would be up for trying new sports/activities or equally to go out for meals, drinks, gigs etc. I'm up for trying any new activity, have a few ideas (rock climbing, scuba diving, dancing, running....) but would really like to meet some people to go with.  I'm originally from the West Midlands but most of my friends are currently in relationships so i don't get to spend as much time with them as i would like so it would be really cool to meet some new people. I would love to hear from anyone in a similar situation who fancies meeting up. You can email me:

I have recently started a new job in the area. I live about 15 miles away, but would like to meet people to explore Solihull and the entertainment it has to offer. I am 26, male and enjoy the usual pub / club / restaurant / social things, but I would also like to be encouraged to do more unusual things like dance / language lessons, paintball, racing, skiing, mountaineering, etcetera. The list is almost endless, but my current motivation is far from that. If you are interested and able to explore and inspire please email or IM (MSN Messenger) me!

I know it's not really the right geography but anyway.... i just moved back up here (studied here) and have found all my old friends have scattered off round the globe.  I'm a fairly normal 22 year old woman with a wicked sense of humour and low boredom threshold when the words foot and ball appear together.
Live and work in Coventry in an industry in which I am the youngest person (typically) and am looking to make some new friends in the area.  Cinema, pubs, bars, occasionally clubs, shopping... am up for most things, though the best is just to sit around and have a laugh really... Drop me a line

Hiya I'm looking to make friends (preferably female), I am a straight female, married with 2 children, 36 yrs old, I live in Tamworth, but grew up in Birmingham (family still live north brum) and have in-laws in Solihull.
I find it difficult to make friends and keep them.  I just want to have someone to chat to, do lunch with, have a cuppa, night out, you know the normal things people do.  I am very confident which I think scares people, I speak my mind, but am very loyal to any friends I have, which I think people don't like to much.  I am glad I found this site, I thought I was alone and destined to live my life with my hubby & kids and no friends.
Anyone brave enough to be my mate get in touch on:

First...what a good idea this section of the site is...ideal for newcomers to the area.  Hi everyone, I'm a 32 year old straight male who has just moved to into Solihull. I work in Birmingham and as I'm single I'm finding it hard getting out there and cracking the ice...so to speak. I enjoy doing most things, spending money (until it runs out..spend a bit save a bit!), going out and basically having a good time. Been through a seperation..hence single life :-( I start a new job soon (again in Birmingham) so new town, new life...who knows what's around the corner.

I stumbled across this site by accident, but thought I would give it a try.  I'm a 34 year year old male, that moved to Chelmsley Wood about a year ago, after being away from Birmingham for the past 15 years (abroad or in London).  I've been finding myself very isolated and lonely, as I don't get out much, due to not knowing anyone in Birmingham anymore, and being skint.  I would love to make some friends in the area, if anyone is willing to try.

This is a great idea... Hi, my name's Rebecca and although I have a pretty good social life going on, I strongly believe you can never have too many pals!  So I'm keen to expand my circle and meet other exiting locals.  I enjoy the usual chill out activities ie pubs, cinema, theatre but I'm at the age where I've done all that and worn the t-shirt so I'm also up for doing something different even something simple like a night at the bingo (it's very hip these days!) or horse riding, or even just meeting for a coffee / shopping (if you're a woman.. or even if you're a guy - some like shopping!).  I'm into dancing too, particularly salsa so would be pleased to meet people into this too as my friends are either too lazy :-( or feel too embarrassed to partake in such an energetic activity!  If you fancy a chat, please email me.  Look forward to hearing from you.

It is so nice to find a site where you can make friends without it involving dating. Look forward to hearing from anyone that is trying to increase their circle of friends.

Hi,  I'm a 26yr old female who moved to the Solihull area about 6 months ago for work.  As with a lot of people on this site I'm finding it hard to meet new friends.  I do have a long term boyfriend but I'd like to make friends of my own and build a life for myself and him.  I like the usual, eating out, cinema, bars, dvd's and a large bottle of wine! If your male / female 20 - 35 yrs and would like to meet a new person then drop me a line.

Not really in to clubbing and avoid football bores. Drop me a line, we'll go for a pint.

My boyfriend and I have just moved to Walsall and don't really know anyone around here. All my friends are settled now and all his friends are single so it's hard to meet up as a group! We're looking for a couple/single people who don't mind nights in/out, weekends away, pubs, clubs, cinema, anything really (!), single-ly type of things separately and couple-ly things too. I'm 27, he's 24, no kids, both drivers, both funny and enjoy a laugh, if you're up for it, contact us!

Hiya I'm looking to make friends, I am a straight female, married with 2 children, 36 yrs old, I live in Tamworth, but grew up in Birmingham and have in-laws in Solihull. Anyone brave enough to be my mate get in touch

Hi to everyone!  I'm a 24 year old (single) guy and I'm moving over to Solihull in a few weeks. Moved down to Brum last year with my now ex to start a new graphic design job, and am moving over from Oldbury to my own place.  I don't know many people in brum, and would love to hook up with some chilled people from the area for a drink and a laugh, and to see what the area has to offer.  I'm getting into downhill biking pretty hard right now, so if anyone's up for a ride in the area that would be great too.  Feel free to drop us a line on Email, and I'm on msn most of the time if anyone gets bored and fancies a random chat.

What a fab idea! I've been struggling somewhat with making friends around where I live. My ex-husband and myself went our separate ways about 2 years ago and I've come to the realisation that the friends I have are so far-flung it's difficult to just pick up the phone and say "let's go out for a drink". It means planning, travelling, money for taxi's etc. I want to meet some friends who live closer to home. I'm an extremely young 36 (truth be told I can fool people into believing I'm in my late 20's) and I'm so easy going I enjoy just about any past time - and done most of them! The approximate area I live in Solihull is not far from the ice-skating rink. If you want to contact me, feel free. In fact, don't be at all shy, just do it and get me out of the quagmire - I'm going barmy and singing to the cats for entertainment...even worse...I look forward to Farscape every evening...HELP ME :-D

What a great idea.  i'm a 36 year old mother of four and feel quite isolated after moving into a new area and losing touch with friends (some intentionally.....) i am quite black conscious and like reggae music, reading, writing for fun, socialising when I can and painting/drawing etc.  Haven't had a night out in ages and i've forgotten what it's like to let my hair down.  I'm honest and loyal and in need of some genuine adult company - male or female - for friendship.  I miss having a laugh, give me a call.

I think that's a brilliant idea - there are so many of these dating sites on the internet that want to charge and you get virtually nothing fro your money - also a lot of false people too.
Cant echo the safety aspect strongly enough - there are a lot of nutters out there - so by all means, have fun but STAY SAFE!!
I live just outside of Hockley Heath and looking to meet other people who are single so if you want to get in touch with a humorous sort or bloke with a bit of a wild side then feel free to get in touch on 07708-922829 and lets have a chat!

I think this is a great idea. I've been looking for a website like this for a long time. The only sites I've seen were sites for dating. That wasn't what I was looking for. I want to meet people with similar interests, that can be just my friend and nothing more. And also who live in my area.

A great idea, I know a lot of people who have re-located to this area, and meeting new people outside of work is difficult.

"A great Idea but I am from Coventry!" and people do live here! Would like to embark on new friendship away from the corporate rat-race. Also considering joining a local gym at the moment. Email me or call me 07977 997 097. Like socialising, meeting new people, music, cars, just embarking upon keep fit, chatting and my mobile! Would love to hear from you.

A great idea - It's difficult to meet new people either because of moving, or because your life circumstances have changed.

What a really good idea! I am a 30 year old female and from Ireland. I recently moved to Solihull with my partner Alan and would love to meet new friends. I enjoy the odd visit to the gym, going to the movies and a few glasses of wine or so in the pub and making new friends so if you feel like dropping me a line.

I'm an old Silhillian of 42 years. Just returned after some years away. Oh hasn't the place changed. I would like someone to have a drink with.

Jim. I too am an old Silhillian, just moved back to the area - 41/42 years old too! Anyway, I too don't know many people here any more. if you fancy getting in touch, then email me.

I think it is an excellent idea. I have recently split from a long term partner and although I have a good circle of friends - they are all in long term relationships. The long and short of it is I have few single friends to hang out with!!

Hi all, I am from the Netherlands, recently moved to Solihull with my partner from Scotland (yes John, he is from Dundee) and I would love to meet new friends to shop, drop, sport or eat with. I am going to take a look at the message board to see if I can leave a text!
