Hello there, I am trying to trace a marriage that
happened in the village way back in 3 May 1836 between an Elizabeth Turner
and William Goode. I would love to get hold of a copy of the parish register
entry, is anyone able to acquire a scanned copy for me please? Kind
regards,

Jones
I am researching my husband's family. His Grandmother was a Lily Jones and
according to my mother-in-law Lily's brother Harry and his wife Peg ran the
pub The Ring of Bells in Hampton. I'm not sure of dates but my mother in
law was born in 1922 and she remembers visiting them there. She also say
her grandmother and great grandmother lived in a shop just around the corner
(Surnames Jones and possibly Bedford). Does anyone have any further info.
on them or the Pub? Many thanks.

I believe my ancestor Joseph Smith (born c 1831) was
the School Master at Fenthams Charity School in 1871 (from the census he
both lived there and worked as a School Master). Was wondering if anyone
might have any further details either about the school at the time or the
Smith family In 1871 he had a wife called Mary; Daughter Mary (age 29);
daugher Margaret (25); Daugher Catherine Mabel (20)- my gt gt grandmother;
Son Arthur (16); daughter Anie Mansell (14) and Daughter Helen (12). Any
information on this family greatly received. Thanks in anticipation.

Does anyone know of a private boarding school in or
near Hampton on Arden run in the late 1940s by a couple named Perrin
(headmaster, Leslie Perrin, and his wife)? Also teaching there, or acting as
housekeeper, if I recall, was a Miss Hanrahan. I spent a year at this school
at age 8 and recall being sent into the village to buy beef at the butcher's
and carrying it back in a string bag. Pupils ranged from infant or
kindergarten age (including my brothers age 6 and 3) to a teenage exchange
student from France.

My husband's aunt, Elsie May Osborne, was employed in
1916 as a nursemaid for a Mrs Jones, "The Ring of Bells," Hampton in Arden.
At that time, she was thirteen, both of her parents had died, her older
brother was in the navy, her younger brother (my husband's father) was put
into a Dr Barnardo's home and sent to Canada. The two brothers made contact
during WWII in Handsworth, Birmingham, but despite numerous attempts to find
their sister, they both died never knowing what happened to her. I am now
trying to find some answers. Have you ever heard of the Ring Of Bells? Is
it perhaps a pub? Or a private residence? Any assistance you could provide
would be invaluable as it could be a pointer to other information. Thanks
in advance for any help you can provide.

My descendants were George Mills and his wife Sarah Gibbs (gt gt gt
grandparents). George was born Crab Mill, Meriden and lived in Hampton in
Arden all of his life. He was the parish clerk of Meriden and is mentioned
in a book called 'Hampton in Arden'. I've been told he also designed medals,
owned a bakery and was the railway station clerk! Anyone still in the
village who is related to the Mills? Grateful for any info.

The Pencill family lived in the
village. In 1861 they resided at 99 Stonebridge Road. I think this is a rare
surname My great grandmother was married to William Pencill who died there
in 1862. Are there any Pencills there today?

I am tracing my family history and would be interested if there are any
descendants of Joseph Nield still living in the area. He was born in Talke
Staffordshire but moved to Woodhouse Farm Hampton in Arden and was farming
there at the start of the 20th Century. I am descended from his brother
Oliver. Many Thanks

What a good website! I am wondering if any information exists on the
Tandy family? My 4x great grandmother, Elizabeth Tandy, was baptised at
Hampton in Arden in 1753, and I wondered if any of the family (or their
descendants) still live in the village? Many thanks in advance.

I recently visited Hampton in Arden for the second time in fifty years
and met a lovely lady who told me she had been a neighbour all those years
ago. She has a son who lives in Munich called Peter. I am hoping Peter will
read this and realise that he and myself have exchanged emails about his
mother. He made it possible for me to meet his mother. I have lost his
address and mine has changed making it hard for us to communicate.

My family and I moved into "Follyfoot" on Bradnock's Marsh Lane in the
summer of 1973. It was , I who named the house after a popular TV series
about horses! We lived there until September of 1982 when we immigrated to
Canada. we sold Follyfoot in 1986.
I have so many fond memories of that house and I even hid a book in a
special place there the evening before we left the country for good. I would
love to be able to find out who lives there now and whether my beloved pond
is still in the garden ( it made the Solihull Evening news in 1982 because
of a 'plague' of frogs).

My two brothers and I spent many wonderful summers staying with our
Gran at Lynnebourne on Marsh Lane (Lucy Elford). I have fond memories of
playing for hours down at the stream, and adventuring through the fields. It
really is a pity one cannot "go back," though those memories have sustained
me through some difficult times.

I am attempting to obtain biographical and family details on Claude
Eugene Hillman Goodyear, who lived at Eastcote Hall from 1926 to 1941. Any
details or family connection very welcome, please. He bought a new Bentley
in 1939 and the car is now in Switzerland. We (me and the current owner) are
attempting to firm up the history of the owners through the years.

As a three year old in the late 1940s I lived on a farm in Hampton
in Arden, the farmer's name was Mr Jones. This is really the only
information I have although I am sure his housekeeper's name was Mrs
Fisher. There are photo's of Mr Jones and my father hay making which I
believe might have been published in the local newspaper. Included in the
photo is a Mrs Dyson. I should like to know the name of the farm and exactly
where it is as I will be back there in the future when I visit family in
Birmingham. I have lived in New Zealand for the past 52 years and have only
been back once. I would really be very grateful for any information you
might have on the farm.

I used to work in Hampton in the 70's and recall stories of a murder
that took place at the Engine pub either in the 60's or 70's involving the
chef there at the time and his wife or girlfriend. Does anyone recall
this unfortunate event or have any information regarding it?

Can anyone tell me if at the end of Marsh Lane, off the Solihull Road, at
Hampton in Arden, there is a bridge under the railway? An area which may
have been used by courting couples years ago.

Hello there. My great grandfather George Jenkins designed and built houses
in and around Hampton in Arden. His own house was built in Hampton in Arden
and a brook ran through the garden. It was a large, detached house called
Brooklands, built around the turn of the century. The family owned the
house for many years. I have a picture of the house from the back if anyone
thinks they may be able to help. Thanks.

Dear Hampton-in-Arden citizens, I am writing from Italy. I had very
good friends there, where I spent an entire summer in 1988! This year we
have not received their usual Christmas greetings and I have tried to call
them, but the number results no longer active. Their names are Graham Kelly
and Julie Feather, with their children Nicola and Sophie. I am very worried,
since I could not trace them via the British Telecom. Could any of you give
me a hint? Thanks ever so much, Francesca Dell'Acqua, Salerno, Italy

Arden at 37 The Crescent, during the early 70's and moved to Spain in 1975.
My father worked for Chrysler and I went to Solihull School. I was also a
teenage magician and gained some fame from the "Young Magician of the Year"
competition sponsored by the Magic Circle in London. I appeared on Tom
Coyne's Midlands Evening Magazine program during my 15 minutes of Fame.
Anyone who wishes to contact me or visit with me in NYC is welcome. I
survived 9/11/2001 and am very fortunate.

I am tracing my family history and believe that my great grandfather was
born in Hampton in Arden around 1872(!). His name is John Carter, his
parents were John and Elizabeth Carter. They had connections to Berkswell,
Meriden and Beoley, Worcestershire. Would love to hear from anyone with
information regarding my family. Many Thanks.

Eden Nesfield - Architect
I was very interested to see some photographs of Hampton in Arden on your
web page. Can you tell me if the cottages in the first photo are by the
architect Eden Nesfield, or any more about them. Do know of any other
pictures, online, of cottages of Hampton in Arden that are by Nesfield?
Thank you.

I am descended from the King family who ran the Post Office in Hampton in
Arden from the late 1800's to the early 1900's.

George Fentham was the son of Henry Fentham, who was the church warden at Hampton Church.
George Fentham left Hampton at the age of 14 to work as an apprentice mercer
in Birmingham. He became a successful business man. When he died a
charitable trust was set up so that poor children of Hampton could go to
school.
Pilkington
I believe that my family came from Hampton in Arden at the beginning of the 19c, and that
the father Mr Pilkington disappeared and the children were then placed in a workhouse from
where two boys escaped to London. I would love to hear from anyone who could give me more
information about this.
Len Pilkington
